Maverine's Reaction: Rhythm, County and Blues

Marla's best friend Maverine talks about the 1994 album Rhythm Country and Blues, in which the VHS was played.

First, the song "The Weight" by Marty Stuart and the Staple Singers (Mavis, Pops, Yvonne and Cleotha) was synonymous. Marty's former bass player had a slight cameo, but uncredited. Marty sings the first verse, Mavis in second, Pops in third, omit "Chester," and Marty sang the "Cannonball" verse. The Staples sang the same song from their first Stax album "Soul Folk in Action," and in 1977, they paired with The Band from the Last Waltz movie. Pops died in 2000, Cleotha in 2013 and Yvonne in 2018.

Next, "Since I Fell For You" was recorded separately by Reba McEntire and Natalie Cole. Natalie's in California and Reba's in Nashville for a recording as Tony Brown was producing. Natalie died on New Year's Eve 2015.

Next, B.B. King had his guitar solo and George Jones sings the part of "Patches." It previously sang by Clarence Carter. The story reflects of a young boy whose dad was nearly dying, but he did die when the boy was 18. George died in 2013, and B.B. two years later.

Next, Trisha Yearwood and Aaron Neville had recorded Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces." Aaron previously recorded "The Grand Tour" by George Jones. Aaron and Trisha's high vocals were cool.

Next, Little Richard and Tanya Tucker recorded Eddie Cochran's "Something Else," but Richard and Tanya get their moves going. Richard died in 2020.

Next, Allen Toussaint sings and plays piano in the re-recording of "Southern Nights" with Chet Atkins on guitar. Glen Campbell had a #1 song in 1977. Chet died in 2001, and Allen fourteen years later.

Next, Conway Twitty had his last recording on May 3, 1993 which was in a duet with Sam Moore of Sam and Dave in Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night in Georgia." Conway died a month later. I notice that Conway said, "Brook Benton, where are you, son?" Brook sings the same song and died in 1988, the same day as Sam's partner Dave Prater's death.

Next, a Sam and Dave tune "When Something is Wrong With My Baby" embarks the whole style of Travis Tritt and Patti LaBelle. Their rousing vocals are really strong enough.

Next, a funky Willie Nelson tune is like a blooper in the end when Lyle Lovett and Al Green sings "Funny How Time Slips Away." Lyle, who is formerly married to Julia Roberts, concerns about his rooster hair, and Al shouts and claps all the way to the end.

Next, Clint Black and the Pointer Sisters finally unites with Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools." Clint sings the first verse, Anita second, Ruth (not Anita, according to the liner notes) third, Clint fourth, and June last. Ruth had twins before its recording. Clint had dub his harmonica and the girls harmonizes. Anita previously sang "Too Many Times" with Earl Thomas Conley in 1986. June died in 2006.

Last, Vince Gill and Gladys Knight sings the Ashford and Simpson's song "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing." Vince and Gladys did a great job on that.
